Norwich MPTC Practical Driving Test Centre.

Bad Weather Phone Number. 01603 438300.

This phone number is only to be used to check if a test is due to take place in the event of bad weather. The test centre staff do not have access to the booking systems and are therefore unable to book, alter or check times of the practical driving test.

Advice from Your Local Driving Instructor.

The Norwich MPTC is one of the new multi purpose test centres currently being built by the DSA, with good facilities including drinks machines and male and female toilets.

The test centre has it's own car park with parking bays/spaces on the left and right, so make sure that you have practiced (and perfected) the reverse bay park to both sides.

The Test Centre is situated on the outskirts of Norwich near to the A47 Southern Bypass. There are currently 16 car test routes which involve driving on a variety of roads including the A47 dual carrageway, a number of relatively narrow rural roads and Norwich city centre.

There are a number of junctions and roads that will be very useful to familiarise yourself with prior to your driving test. I would suggest practicing the double mini roundabouts on Plumstead Road, the Heartsease roundabout (used from most directions) and Green Lane North and South, particularly the two sharp bends half way along this road.

Having been an ADI using Norwich test centres for the last 14 years, I feel that our new test centre has better facilities and test routes than previous centres.

Bad Weather Phone Number. 01727 859465.

This phone number is only to be used to check if a test is due to take place in the event of bad weather. The test centre staff do not have access to the booking systems and are therefore unable to book, alter or check times of the practical driving test.

Advice from Your Local Driving Instructor.

The St Albans Test Centre is located at Beauver House, 6 Bricket Road , St Albans AL1 3JX , with good facilities including drinks machines and toilets.

The test centre has it's own car park with parking bays/spaces on the left and right. However, the spaces are limited and very tight and parking along Bricket Road is restricted – get there early!! – Bay parking is unlikely at the test centre.

Situated close to the City centre off Victoria Street, this area is always busy. There are currently 17 car test routes which involve driving on a variety of roads including dual carriageways, residential roads and the city centre. There are no particularly difficult junctions, but the A414 has some large busy roundabouts to practice. The overall pass rate is 44% in 2009-2010 which is around the national average.

The Lincoln MPTC is one of the new multi purpose test centres built by the DSA, with good facilities including drinks machines and male and female toilets. The test centre has it's own car park with parking bays/spaces on the left and right.

The Test Centre is situated on the outskirts of Lincoln near to Damons’ on the A46. There are currently 15 car test routes which involve driving on a variety of roads including dual carriageway, rural and town centre. There are several roundabouts with offset exits, so take care which exit you choose.

Having been an ADI using both the old Lincoln test centre and the new Lincoln MPTC, I prefer the new test centre.

 The L-Test Secret!

Grantham Practical Driving Test Centre.

 Show Me How Manoeuvres!

Bad Weather Phone Number. 01476 563961.

This phone number is only to be used to check if a test is due to take place in the event of bad weather. The test centre staff do not have access to the booking systems and are therefore unable to book, alter or check times of the practical driving test.

Advice from Your Local Driving Instructor.

The Grantham Driving Test Centre is located on Cecil Street in Grantham. There is a small waiting room with a water fountain and toilets.

It has it's own car park with parking bays/spaces on the left and right; the examiners park their cars in the bays adjacent to the test centre building, and the candidates park in the bays on the opposite side. Depending on whether you get the bay park at the beginning or the end of your test, you may need to reverse into a bay on the left or the right, so make sure that you have practiced (and perfected) reversing to both sides

Be aware that the car park slopes away from the parking bays at an angle, so you will need to have good clutch control to ensure the car doesn't roll forwards during the manoeuvre. Also, the car park is very small, so when returning from your test, make sure you drive in very slowly in case there is another vehicle manouvring in the car park.

The roads in the immediate vicinity of the test centre are quite congested with parked cars, so drive cautiously as you set off from your test and when you return!

There are currently 14 car test routes which involve driving on a variety of roads including the A1 dual carrageway, a number of relatively narrow rural roads and Grantham town centre.

There are a number of junctions and roads that will be very useful to familiarise yourself with prior to your driving test. I would suggest practicing the ASDA roundabout, turning left onto Avenue Road from Welham Street (don't clip the kerb), turning right from all directions at the junction of Harlaxton Road and Springfield Road, the roundabouts as you leave the A1 at Gonerby Moor and also the junction where the High Dyke meets the A52 near Cold Harbour.

Horsforth Practical Driving Test Centre

 Show Me How Manoeuvres!

Bad Weather Phone Number. 0113 258 4987.

This phone number is only to be used to check if a test is due to take place in the event of bad weather. The test centre staff do not have access to the booking systems and are therefore unable to book, alter or check times of the practical driving test.

Horsforth Test Centre is located on Low Lane about 200 meters from the Woodside roundabout on the Leeds Ring Road. It has no car parking facilities, being in the basement of a rented property, so all tests start off from the road side.

Low Lane is a busy road during the week and parking is difficult, often it's necessary to park on a side road a short walk from the test centre.

At any one time the DTC runs 20 test routes that cover a large area so you will get a good variety of roads, from estates to national speed limit country roads & busy areas (centre of Horsforth) to national speed limit dual carriageways. The routes include some 'tricky' junctions and roundabouts that you should familiarise yourself with before the test, primarily Rawdon Roundabout, the mini roundabout at the bottom of Spen Lane and several severe hill starts such as Wood Hill Crescent just above Horsforth railway station. The area is generally busy so a lot of emphasis is put on hesitation so as not to unnecessarily hold people up and driving at the speed limit where safe to do so! 30 means 30 not 27!

Because of the lack of a car park, you will not be asked to perform 'bay parking'

Garston Test Centre has been on Woolton Road, Garston for some time and has male and female toilets.

The test centre has it's own small car park with parking bays/spaces on the left and right, so make sure that you have practiced (and perfected) the reverse bay park to both sides, as it is often very busy. There is a newsagents next door.

The Test Centre is situated in Gastston just off the B5171, There are currently 16 car test routes which involve driving on a variety of roads including surrounding areas, for example Wavertree, Aigburth, Speak, Woolton to name but a few.

There are also 2 Extended test routes and 4 ADI Part 2 routes. Having used this test centre for the past 10 years plus, I can say the examiners at this test centre are very friendly and vary fair.

Bad Weather Phone Numbers.

 The L-Test Secret!

 Show Me How Manoeuvres!

Unfortunatly at present we do not have the phone number for your test centre, however you can try the following:

If you received a letter or email from the DSA when you booked your driving test the Bad Weather Pnone number for your test centre should be here.

Contact your driving instructor, as many instructors will have this number in case they need to contact the test centre themselves.

If your instructor doesn't have the number then it may be worth trying other driving instructors in the area to see if they have it.

Unfortunatly as the DSA dosen't publish this number these are the best options.

When you find this number we would be grateful if you would email us the details so that we can publish it here youronlinedriving@btinternet.com  to help others in the same situation as you.

Thank You.

Finally after you have checked on your UK DSA practical driving test why not come back and let us help you to pass your driving test.

The Secret to Passing Your Driving Test, 1st time!

Driving Test Centre Routes.

 The L-Test Secret!

 Show Me How Manoeuvres!

Whilst the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) no longer publish UK driving test routes you can still work out where to practice driving test routes for your driving test centre.

Look for the following within approx 10-15 min from the test centre.

  • Find a number of different roundabouts and crossroads as these types of junctions are normally on most driving test routes.
  • A residential area with a variety of side roads to turn into and emerge out from. These areas are also often used for the manoeuvres.
  • Look for different types of roads, such as national speed limit rural roads, dual carriageways, ring roads etc, as the UK driving test is designed to test your ability to drive safely on a variety of different types of roads and speed limits.
  • Areas with lots of cars parked beside the road. These areas are used to test your ability to judge space with oncoming traffic (meeting) and also to anticipate dangers such as pedestrians stepping out and car doors opening.
  • City or town centres. Look out for difficult road layouts such as one way systems, major traffic light junctions etc.

This can easily be done by driving to (close but not into) your intended test centre. Then drive for approximatly 15 minutes away from your test centre. This will then give you a good idea of the furthest point of the driving test routes. Now look at a map to see all the areas that fall within this distance from the test centre (in all directions).

The independant drive section of the driving test is often taking place from the driving test centre at the start of the test. It may therefore be worth considering the instructions that could be given from the test centre, such as follow the signs to the airport etc.

Remember it's not essential to drive on all the driving test routes for your local driving test centre, but knowing some of the more awkward junctions near to the test centre can be really useful.

Good Luck.

Sorry we don't presently have a driving school listed for your test centre.

    Add your URL for FREE!

If you would like to see your Driving School listed here (for free) (under both your local Theory & Practical test centres). Then please contact us at admin@your-online-driving-school.co.uk  with your company name, phone number, email and website details. P.s We have now added a Driving School Directory were you can also be listed for free.

We will only be placing one driving school per practical test centre, however due to there being less theory test centres than practical centres in many areas, your local theory test centre link may contain more than one driving school, please advise which local theory test centre (only one) you wish to be listed under.

Finally a link back from your website to www.your-online-driving-school.co.uk/

We look forward to hearing from you.

Already taking lessons, then why not tell your instructor about us? With thousands of visitors each week they will thank you for it!
